Loose Denture Solutions

A fast and affordable way to replace missing teeth

What are dentures?

Dentures are a cost-effective solution to replace missing teeth. They can be used to replace a single missing tooth, several missing teeth or they are a good option if you have no teeth.

Dentures are made up of a removable hard-warning acrylic plate which mimics the look of your teeth and gums to give your mouth a natural appearance.

We take impressions of your teeth and gums and use the moulds to create a bespoke set of dentures which fit your mouth exactly.

Wear your dentures during the day and remove them at night for cleaning and to rest your gums.

Patients from Hammersmith, Turnham Green and West London choose dentures as they are an affordable way to replace missing teeth.

Types of dentures

Complete dentures

If you are missing many teeth or have no teeth at all, perhaps due to trauma, decay or disease, complete dentures are a good option. A full set of false teeth are made and attached to the acrylic plate which sits over the top of your gums.

Partial dentures

If you are missing a single tooth or if you have several teeth missing, you can opt for partial dentures. An acrylic plate supports several false teeth which are matched to the exact position in your mouth as required.

Overdentures

Overdentures, also known as implant dentures and denture stabilisation, uses dental implants to support dentures. Your dentures won’t slip or become uncomfortable, instead they clip on to the dental implants which hold them firmly in place.

What is the process for dentures?

Consultation

At your consultation at Askew Dental Care in Shepherd’s Bush, we will examine your teeth, mouth and gums and discuss the process and benefits of having dentures. If you have any teeth which are decayed or in poor condition, we will talk about extracting these first.

Take impressions

At the next appointment, we will take dental impressions of your mouth, gums and any teeth that you have any. The impressions are then used to create your unique set of dentures in our dental laboratory.

If you have chosen to have overdentures, we will carry out the dental implant surgery prior to having the dentures made.

Fitting your dentures

Once your dentures are ready, we will invite you back to the dental surgery in Shepherd’s Bush to show you how to wear your dentures. We will show you how to remove your dentures at the end of each day and how to clean them. You may find it takes a while to get used to wearing your dentures. Eating, speaking and chewing will seem strange at first, but will soon become second nature.

Maintenance

It is important that you take good care of your dentures and gums as part of your daily oral health routine to avoid, gum disease, bad breath and tooth decay. Your hygienist will show you how to take good care of your dentures and gums.

FAQs

How will dentures affect eating and my speech?

It will take a little time to get used to wearing your dentures. You will need to start by eating soft food and cutting them up into small pieces. You should chew slowly. As you gradually become used to eating with dentures, you can start to re-introduce other foods into your diet. You should avoid eating any foods which are extremely sticky or hard. You may notice that you slur or have difficulty pronouncing certain words with dentures. Keep practising out loud and you will get used to speaking with dentures.

Is there an alternative to wearing dentures?

Whilst dentures are the most cost-effective solution, you will need to have them replaced after about 5 years. Around this time, you may notice dentures slipping or causing discomfort to your gums and this is due to the constant wear on your gums. The alternative option for missing teeth is to have dental implants. Dental implants are a more permanent solution. A titanium screw replaces the tooth root which supports a false tooth. They remain fixed in your gums and there’s no need to remove them in the evening.

Do I need to wear denture adhesive?

A denture adhesive can be worn to give better retention, stability and bite. They can also help patients who have dry mouth conditions. Denture adhesives should not be used as a solution if dentures become loose, start to slip or are causing discomfort. This is a sign that your dentures need to be replaced. Your dentist can talk to you more about denture adhesives at your consultation.
